"Sphinx"
The idea for this painting had been in my sketchbook for 12 years and I originally imagined the subject as a reclining figure (odalisque) in a similar setting. When I came to do the painting 6 months ago I decided to elevate the figure to a position of protector and give it a regal sensibility. This reminded me of my trip to Giza, Eygpt where the ancient builders had combined the pharaoh Kafre’s head and the body of a lion to create the Sphinx as a deity. For the painting, I wanted the bear to be a solemn beauty and for viewers to offer respect and veneration for her and the nature that she is protecting.

All artworks from the Signature Collection by Robert Bissel are “Certified Art Giclees” printed on 400 gram archival canvas with archival pigment inks. “Certified Art Giclees” are very high-quality reproductions of the original, whereby the original paintings are scanned with the Cruse Fine Art Scanner in very high resolution.
The durability of a Certified Art Giclée™ is at least 100 years and thus meets the archival standard set by the ‘Fine Art Trade Guild’. The Certified Art Giclée is always made with waterproof archival pigment inks and on acid and OBA free materials. These materials are provided with an invisible coating that ensures a chemical reaction between ink and material. The minimum resolution is 1440 dpi, which makes the prints rasterless and has an unprecedented level of detail. The Certified Art Giclée is always provided with a visible number and signature applied by the artist. The signature is therefore not printed. The enclosed certificate is also provided with a number and signature and also co-signed by the master printer. This certificate also states the edition including the EAs.
Robert Bissell's Certified Art Giclées are delivered on a roll (and therefore not stretched).
