As I write this I am 38,000 ft above Greenland on my way to see a young man, an ailing relative, who has endured a crippling disease with acceptance and a generous smile on his face for several years. I find myself sitting with humility and in awe of this most courageous person I am about to experience for the last time.
Two weeks ago, I was following a dog who was crippled and unable to use her back legs. The determination and sheer will to live was clear by her steady, unforced progression forward using the wheeled walking aid. The look on the dog’s face and her demeanor simply said— life. Nothing else. Take another breath. And another. Keep going.

I am introducing this new line of prints that reproduce recent paintings that feature animals set in abstract backgrounds, rather than the detailed landscapes I usually place these figures in. There is no apparent narrative in these works so that we may contemplate the creatures in a more direct manner. The first two prints are shown here.

I cannot say enough good things about Pomegranate. They consistently produce merchandise of the finest quality, featuring my paintings. They are the only company I have allowed to use my artwork because I know they will reproduce the paintings accurately. Their product offerings include note-cards, greeting cards, calendars and jigsaw puzzles. I regularly hear from people who have discovered and enjoyed my work through buying or receiving these products.
I am especially excited about a new Bears by Bissell
calendar coming out for 2013. It will feature some of my best works and should be available in the New Year for early purchase.
Currently, you may still be able to pick up a 2012 calendar, featuring my paintings of rabbits.
Also available for the holidays is a new card called The Dancing Wolves
. You may find these in your local stationary or book store or click the link below.
A New Book in the Making.
I have a great team of people who regularly help with the website, getting the prints out and all kinds of tasks that it takes to produce the paintings and get the word out about the work. I am so grateful to Brendan, Phillip, Anastasia and Mandy for everything they do. And to my wife, Leanne, for her continued support and advice.
We are all working together on a new book that will present many images created over the last few years. I am especially excited by the initial design for the book as I think it will add a fresh perspective on the paintings. I mean this in the sense that when one sees the work all together it can become it’s own story. Not only are we seeing a creative progression in the work over a period of time but the narrative related in the individual paintings seems to be contributing to a universal story that we can all relate to. The creation of the book is a journey in itself and we are only a short way along the path at this time.
Thank you for all your generous support!
I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. See you in 2012.
